Brief description of the Unit

This unit is the second half of the Honours Thesis, with a focus on carrying out the program of research and writing the final version for submission. The unit involves composing a thesis in Humanities or Social Science. Depending on the discipline, the thesis may involve constructing an argument, gathering and analysing data, or producing creative writing with an accompanying exegesis. The unit includes managing time to present a coherent address of the topic in an acceptable format by the due date.

Depending on the discipline, the thesis may involve constructing an argument, gathering and analysing data, or producing creative writing with an accompanying exegesis. The unit includes managing time to present a coherent line of argument or exploration of a topic for timely submission.

Detailed, independent study of relevant literature and primary materials, as applicable to the discipline, under the guidance of an academic supervisor. The thesis may take the form of a single work that puts forward an argument, or creative writing accompanied by an exegesis.

A research thesis (12000-15000 words) or creative writing with exegesis, over the whole year. For creative writing projects, the exegesis should be 5000 words and the creative work 10,000 words (traditional prose) or up to 40 pages (for other written forms, negotiable).
