Brief description of the Unit

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP5A) program is tailored for the needs of international students wishing to succeed in academic study in Australia. EAP5A is the first five-weeks of a ten-week unit of study of the intermediate level of the English for Academic Purposes Level 4 unit. Students who successfully complete the unit will be able to move to the next five- week level (EAP5B) study of the EAP5 unit in preparation for tertiary study at Federation University. Students receive a progress report upon completion of each five-week unit. This unitĀ aims to develop the intermediate reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, computer and study skills required for further study at Federation University, for diplomas, undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It focuses on building students' confidence in the fundamental language skills in an academic context with an emphasis on developing critical thinking and academic literacy skills.

The EAP5 unit builds the skills required for lectures, tutorials, reading research and written assignments in English. It is based on student-centred lessons using Reflect Reading and Writing coursebook 5 and Listening and Speaking coursebook 5. EAP5A will cover the first four units in each coursebook. The course is designed to help students not only master English but also builds their confidence and achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals.
