Brief description of the Unit |
This unit follows on from Media Studies 1 focusing on curriculum and pedagogy in the Media Studies specialist area for undergraduate pre-service teachers. The unit continues to develop pre-service teachers’ knowledge and skills related to the effective teaching of Media Studies at senior secondary school level. Pre-service teachers are acquainted with the assessment procedures of VCE Units 3 & 4, and examine how the curriculum frameworks can be used to design effective learning experiences and assessment tasks. Pre-service teachers will learn how to develop school students’ understanding of the use of media codes and conventions to structure meaning as well as investigating the nature of communication between media and audiences. |

Content, concepts, structure and substance of curriculum planning frameworks at secondary school level with a focus on: - Development of skills in using curriculum frameworks to design, implement and evaluate effective learning and teaching sequences and activities.
- Examination and evaluation of resources (including ICTs) to support the teaching of Media in VCE Units 3 & 4.
- Reading and analysing media texts and constructing responses.
- Investigation into the way curriculum frameworks, policies and assessment are enacted in school contexts.
- Exploration of the way teachers engage in ongoing professional learning to improve their teaching and support student learning.
- Evaluation of teaching skills to support student learning.
