Brief description of the Unit

This unit aims to develop students' understanding of a broad range of communication and psychosocial factors that influence exercise physiology practice. This unit also provides students with the knowledge, skills and values to appropriately manage mental health disorders, cancer pathologies and other complex conditions. Students will also learn about the pathophysiology of types of pain including the complex sequela of chronic pain.

  • Anatomy, pathophysiology, assessment, medical management and exercise guidelines for a range of complex conditions, including but not limited to: mental health, trauma, dementia, chronic fatigue, cancers, and chronic pain.

Students to conduct an interview with a mock client considered complex, and reflect on clinical skills and challenges.
