Brief description of the Unit |
General English 1B is the second five-week course of General English Level 1. Students who successfully complete the course will be able to articulate to the next five-week level course (GE2A) in GE Level 2, then the EAP program, and, eventually, tertiary study at Federation University. Students receive a progress report upon completion of each five-week course. In this course students will have opportunities to reinforce learning from General English 1A (GE1A). They will be given the chance to consolidate their understanding and use of familiar everyday expressions, and practice very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. They will be guided to gain further control over the ability to take part in social encounters in English. Learning will focus upon the need to perform self-introductions, ask and answer questions about themselves and others, talk about familiar personal topics in a general way, and gain confidence with simple guided interactions with speakers sensitive to their language needs and willing to accommodate to their proficiency level. |

Graduate Attributes: |
The Federation University graduate attributes (GA) are entrenched in the Higher Education Graduate Attributes Policy (LT1228).Federation University Australia graduates develop these graduate attributes through their engagement in explicit learning and teaching and assessment tasks that are embedded in all Federation Courses. Graduate attribute attainment typically follows an incremental development process mapped through Course progression. One or more graduate attributes must be evident in the specified learning outcomes and assessment for each Federation University Australia Unit, and all attributes must be directly assessed in each Course. |
