Brief description of the Unit

The aim of the Introduction to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ History will provide an understanding of pre-colonisation and post-colonisation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ and the movement of reconciliation. This course explores both traditional and contemporary experience and expression of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples culture.  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ philosophy and its impact on the understanding of country is an essential component of this course.  English language skills for academic purposes will be consolidated, extended and assessed via specific criteria in all assessment tasks.

  • The organisation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' societies
  • The lifelong learning system
  • Economical system of Indigenous societies
  • Traditional environmental knowledges.
