| Brief description of the Unit |
This unit introduces professional, legal and ethical frameworks that affect health professions and professional practice. Students will be able to clearly identify professional, legal and ethical issues, concepts and principles and explore how these relate to the delivery of person/woman- centred consumer- led care and clinical decision-making. Professional standards including NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice (2016); NMBA Registered Nurse Code of Conduct (2018), ICN/NMBA Code of Ethics for Nurses (2018), NMBA Midwife Standards for Practice (2018); NMBA Code of Conduct for the Midwife (2018), and ICM/NMBA Code of Ethics for the Midwife (2014) will be explored. The regulation will be outlined and students will be encouraged to explore person/woman-centered care and health care relationships and practice obligations in a multidisciplinary healthcare team environment. This unit will incorporate additional learning hours to support the development of students’ academic and study skills. |
