| Brief description of the Unit |
Clinical Diagnostics 1 is designed to be taught in conjunction with Clinical Paramedicine 1. It will introduce the participant to the Clinical Practice Guidelines and their application. This unit introduces the student to paramedicine and pre hospital assessment and care with a focus on common medical presentations. Utilising models of practice, the student will develop in the fundamentals of Paramedicine practical and theoretical clinical competencies. These will include an introduction to the pre hospital ambulance management of patients both at scene and in moving vehicle for presentations including cardiac/respiratory, pre hospital analgesia, mental health and paediatrics. |

| Unit Content: |
The Clinical Practice Guidelines will be analysed in depth to support the learning in this unit. This course will examine the unit and pre-hospital management of cardiovascular and respiratory emergencies. It will also introduce concepts of care for the paediatric patient and basic methods of assessment. The participant will gain an understanding of the patient with a mental illness and the relevant legal and ethical aspects of the Mental Health Act. |
