Brief description of the Unit

This unit builds on theory gained in Community, Paramedic Culture and Practice 1 with particular emphasis on analysis of culture and current practice. The knowledge gained in HCPAR5021 will enable students to extend their participation in the online discussions with greater understanding of the ambulance context.

This unit is designed to build upon and extend your knowledge and skills from HCPAR5021, and to develop interest and competence:

1.Professional development opportunities and individual’s responsibility to seek out such opportunities.
2.The significance of evidenced based practice within the pre hospital setting.
3.Critical analysis of current Clinical Practice Guidelines and management options and consideration of the potential for improvements in the future.
4.The need for paramedic registration and advancement of professionalism with the occupation.
5.Current controversies within paramedic practice.
6.Factors that influence the delivery of healthcare within Australia.
7.Issues around the paramedic workforce and then potential need for change.

Critical Thinking Discussion Paper Discussion paper which demonstrates student’s ability to critically reflect on issues relating to paramedicine. Students should use the literature to demonstrate their ability to reflect and discuss the topics.
