Unit Content: |
This unit is designed to aid students in the development and management of a research project. The coursework will focus on addressing the challenges faced by early career researchers, including the regulatory responsibilities that are part of effective research. This includes Occupation Health and Safety (OH&S) and Ethical issue; the design and planning of effective and productive research (e.g., developing Research Hypotheses, Problem Statements, Experimental planning; Research Questions, Literature Review); the analysis of research (including the statistical analysis of data); and effective communication of research (text, oral, visual). |
Graduate Attributes: |
| Learning Outcomes Assessed | Assessment Tasks | Assessment Type | Weighting | 1. | K1, S1, A1 | The purpose of the online quiz is to determine your knowledge of ethical practice and OH&S to help you undertake an ethics application (if required) for you thesis project. The quiz may consist of multiple choice or short response questions. The online quiz is divided into two parts - Part A (assessment of Weeks 1-4) and Part B (assessment of Weeks 5-9). | Online Research Ethics Quiz | 10-30% | 2. | K1, K2, K3, K4, K5, S2, S3, S4, A2, A4, A5 | The purpose of the seminar presentation is to provide experience with presenting a research proposal and understand the research process related to conducting research. The seminar will be a 10minute oral presentation of the scientific background, research design and methodology of the project. The seminar will be delivered to peers, supervisors and colleagues. | Seminar Presentation | 20-40% | 3. | K1, K2, K3, K4, K5, S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, A1, A2, A3, A4 | The purpose of the written proposal is the develop an understanding about the scientific rigor necessary in writing a research proposal. | Written Research Proposal | 20-40% | 4. | K1, S1, A1 | The purpose of this task is to develop understanding of the following research integrity concepts; (i) the responsible conduct of research, (ii) when things go wrong: Breaches of the Code, and (iii) responsible conduct of human participants research. | Online Modules | S or U |
