Unit Content:
This unit will provide practical experience for communicating different types of research to groups who include experts in the same field of study, and those who know little or nothing about it. Students will research topics that are relevant to their area of study. They will independently research this topic (literature search) and prepare a poster that provides an informative overview of a specific research paper and explain why it is an important area in their field of study and to the broader community.

Students will also deliver an analysis and critique of a small sample of research articles that they regard as important in their field of research. The seminar should explain the type of research that was conducted, the results that were generated and how this work has led to their own research project. Students are encouraged to critically assess the research (not necessarily negative) by commenting on its significance, and highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the work. It is likely that publications sourced from the literature review would be highly suitable. The poster and seminar should address different pieces of research.
