Brief description of the Unit |
The project unit will give the student authentic experience working in a self-directed team toward the development of a solution to an information technology problem. This unit uses an agile development approach and involves working with a client and possibly other stakeholders to establish goals, create user stories then work collaboratively to complete work to realise the project vision. Students will negotiate deliverables and outcomes based on the project vision and client's priorities. At the end of semester, students will present their deliverables in a poster/trade fair style presentation. Students will apply authentic industry practices, tools and techniques. This is an advanced unit and students are expected to build on the SFIA skills developed in their chosen Major area. This unit involves self-directed and independent exploration and learning of new skills. |

Unit Content: |
This unit will provide students with an opportunity to undertake a significant project of work aligned to their chosen Major area of study. The project will be completed by a group of students (groups to be created based on students' Majors, SFIA skills and projects available). Each project team will be allocated a staff supervisor and a client. The client will present a real IT based problem and project vision. The project will involve some work toward a solution, proof of concept, or prototype model. The student teams will follow authentic appropriate practices toward developing a solution that addresses the problem. At the end of the semester, the student team will deliver agreed artefacts to their client. The satisfactory completion of a project will normally require a committed and consistent effort over the entire duration of the project. Activities during scheduled classes will provide opportunities for support and staff mentoring of the student groups. Students will work in self-directed teams and follow an agile methodology tailored to their specific project needs. Topics may include: 1. Agile methodologies 2. Industry practices, tools and techniques 3. Communication with stakeholders 4. Self-directed learning as required to support the creation of project deliverables. |
Graduate Attributes: |
Federation University recognises that students require key transferable employability skills to prepare them for their future workplace and society. FEDTASKS (Transferable Attributes Skills and Knowledge) provide a targeted focus on five key transferable Attributes, Skills, and Knowledge that are be embedded within curriculum, developed gradually towards successful measures and interlinked with cross-discipline and Co-operative Learning opportunities. One or more FEDTASK, transferable Attributes, Skills or Knowledge must be evident in the specified learning outcomes and assessment for each FedUni Unit, and all must be directly assessed in each Course.
