Brief description of the Unit

This modular unit will equip students with knowledge and skills to support the advancement of their clinical practice. This unit will foster professional development relevant to a variety of specialist and emerging practice domains. The learning activities within the unit will enable in-depth critical examination of the complexities of contemporary and future occupational therapy clinical practice. As part of each module,   students will engage in targeted re?ection of their capabilities against the Australian Occupational Therapy Competency Standards . The modules equip students to undertake autonomous evidence-based practice in regional Australia. The modules will be offered in a semi-block mode across the semester to enable immersion in specialised areas of practice.

The following documentation has substantially informed the syllabus/content of this unit: The Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (OTBA) Code of Conduct (2014); Australian Occupational Therapy Competency Standards (2018); National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (2017); National Standards for Mental Health 2020 as based on Mental Health Act 2014; Aged Care Quality Standards (2021); National Digital Health Framework (2021); and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Curriculum Framework (2020).

2. Occupational therapy role within specialist and emerging practice areas in regional and rural contexts
3. Preparation for Clinical practice
4. Develop skills and knowledge to facilitate life-long learning and promote success in future clinical practice
