Brief description of the Unit

This course is the first of two clinical practice courses, which are designed to set the foundation for learning experiences within health settings. This course is made up of three 5-week placements in different discipline areas selected from the mandatory placements of Acute Care/Cardiorespiratory, Neuro/Rehabilitation, Musculo-skeletal Physiotherapy, Rural and non-core. The total of 15 weeks of supervised professional practice clinical experience will be conducted in clinical settings in a range of public and private health care facilities. This course in conjunction with NHPPS4001 contains 525 hours of Professional Experience Placement

Unit Content:

525 hours of Professional Practice clinical placement experience (Part 1 of 2) (NHPPS 4001) Clinical experience provides opportunities to integrate theory and practice. In a wide range of settings, you will be given the opportunity and instruction to develop and refine your clinical and reasoning skills necessary for entry into the workforce. Work-based placements allow development of competencies required for professional practice, including reflective practice, clinical assessment and intervention skills, professional communication, and self-management. Not only will you practice taught skills, you will continue to develop your professional identity. The physiotherapist educators at various facilities work in a close partnership with the University to provide these teaching and learning opportunities and to create highly contextualised learning outcomes for you.
