Brief description of the Unit |
This is the first of four units in which students will complete an original research project with the support of their supervisor/s. Students will select a research project from an available list and will be responsible for implementing the project over four consecutive semesters. During this unit students will meet regularly with their supervisor/s to refine the research question, complete a critical review of relevant literature and design appropriate data collection method to address their research question. Students will demonstrate their ability for independent study and manage their time and project effectively throughout this unit. Ethics may be required for some research projects, and it is expected that ethics applications will be submitted before the end of this first unit. ((While supervisor/s will be primarily responsible for submitting the ethics application, students will contribute to the documentation through their literature review and proposed research methods)) |

Unit Content: |
The research thesis 1 unit is a self-directed learning activity that focuses on the student’s scholarship skills. Students work with supervisor/s to complete a literature review and plan the research method of their research project. Resources will be Supervisors will facilitate students critical reading of the literature and their effective communication of the literature synthesis; design of an appropriate research method; and manage their research project and time effectively |
