Brief description of the Unit

The unit provides basic knowledge of aetiology, pathology, signs and symptoms, management, and prognosis of disease conditions encountered in allied health practice throughout the lifespan. Also discussed is the impact on daily function, medical and surgical interventions, prevention of disease, psychological sequelae, and community care for all age-related conditions and impairments. Students consider the role of allied health professionals in the management of a range of conditions including how different health professionals work together.

Unit Content:

The Ahpra and National Boards’ Shared Code of Conduct (2022); Australian Occupational Therapy Competency Standards (2018); National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (2017); National Standards for Mental Health 2020 as based on Mental Health Act 2014; Aged Care Quality Standards (2021); National Digital Health Framework (2021); the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Curriculum Framework (2020); and the Physiotherapy Board of Australia (PBA) Code of Conduct (2014) and Physiotherapy practice thresholds in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand (2015) have substantially informed the syllabus/content of this unit.
