| Brief description of the Unit |
This unit introduces nursing students to the foundational concepts and practices related to public health, health promotion, and health education. This unit focuses on the interconnectedness of these areas, providing students with an understanding of how public health initiatives and health promotion strategies contribute to improving population health outcomes. Students will explore the roles of nurses as advocates and change agents, with a particular emphasis on their contribution to health promotion and quality improvement in diverse healthcare settings from a strengths-based nursing perspective. Additionally, the unit covers nursing roles across the continuum of care, from primary to tertiary healthcare, within the Australian healthcare system.
By examining key theories and approaches that underpin health promotion and patient education, students will gain the analytical skills needed to apply these frameworks in practice. Through case studies, practical examples, and critical discussions, the unit prepares students to engage in public health and health promotion efforts aimed at addressing health disparities and improving patient well-being. By the end of the unit, students will be equipped to take an active role in promoting health at both individual and community levels. |
