Brief description of the Unit

In this unit, students develop and apply knowledge of best practice safety and risk management approaches for outdoor environmental education and adventure sport experiences, including a strict aversion to fatalities approach. Students will learn about and apply/use legislation, regulations, standards, codes, professional learning, and safety equipment, including communications and navigation equipment, related to safety and risk management that apply to outdoor environmental education and adventure sport experiences. Students will enhance and consolidate their outdoor environmental education and adventure sport safety and risk management knowledge and skills through the creation of safety plans, delivery of presentations, critical reflections, and fieldwork experiences.
