Brief description of the Unit

This unit provides a foundation for professional practice in clinical psychology. Topics covered include counselling skills and clinical interviewing, assessment, case formulation and treatment planning, and ethical and professional issues in the practice of clinical psychology. The role of supervision and self-care in professional practice will also be included. The unit will involve both theoretical and practical learning components. This unit introduces students to practical skills required to be a general psychologist. It begins to prepare students for their internship year prior to general registration as a psychologist through the development of professional identity and reflective practice and will develop practical skills and competencies through activities such as role plays, simulated practice and observation.
