Brief description of the Unit |
This course forms the core research project component of the Graduate Certificate in Research and has a focus on carrying out a program of research and submitting a significant piece of work for assessment. The course involves composing a thesis in the discipline area of the student, and depending on the discipline, the thesis may involve constructing an argument, gathering and analysing data, associated field, laboratory, clinical or computer based work. For students working in creative art disciplines, work may involve producing creative writing with an accompanying exegesis, or exegesis plus development and production of a body of creative practical works of art, design or performance.

Unit Content: |
This course has no formally timetabled classes. However, students may be invited to attend various information sessions, seminars and learning opportunities relevant to their discipline area.
This course is designed to foster problem-based self-learning and research. Guided by their research supervisor, topics may include:
- Conceptual planning.
- Problem solving.
- Research and literature review.
- Creative and critical thinking.
- Communication and reporting.
- Project management.
- Academic writing and preparation of professional documentation.
