This unit forms the first part of a year-long honours research project. The assessment for this unit is the final honours thesis, though it is expected that the first semester of the honours research year will include significant planning for your research project (in consultation with your supervisor/s), and possibly the start of data collection. |

Unit Content: |
This unit forms the first part of a year-long honours research project. The assessment for this unit is the final honours thesis. It is expected that students will show a high degree of self-reliance, initiative and intellectual independence in conducting their honours research project. The first semester of the honours research project could include (in addition to the literature review, conducted as part of SCHON4002): identifying a research question (and refining this, if necessary, as you conduct the literature review); gaining ethics approval (if needed); choosing an appropriate experimental design; deciding how you plan to analyse data, and; organising the experiment (e.g. securing laboratory space, ordering materials, arranging field equipment, site selection). Depending on the project, student`s may or may not be collecting data in your first semester. There are no formal milestones to be achieved for either SCHON4003 Research thesis 1 or SCHON4004 Research thesis 2, other than the final submission and presentation. As such, it is the primary responsibility of the student to ensure suitable progress is being made towards a timely submission. Topics may include: 1.
